LCS Constructors, Inc. Supports the Cure and Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Date:10/12/2010

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- It's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and that means one thing – doing your part to bring awareness, education and fundraising to the forefront. LCS Constructors, Inc. (LCS) decided it was time to do their part and participated for the first time in the Susan G. Komen Orange County Race for the Cure 5K Walk/Run held on Sunday, September 26, 2010 in Newport Beach, California. With a turnout of over 24,000 participants and raising approximately $2.7 million, it was a successful event with fundraising efforts continuing throughout the month of October.

As constructors of laboratories and technical facilities, and particularly as builders of cancer research laboratories, LCS wanted to provide support on a different level. "Participating in an event like this seems like a logical thing for us to do," states Executive Vice President David C. Skinner, "and it is rewarding to not only be a part of building facilities for cancer research, but also support the research in the overall fight against breast cancer." However, most notably for LCS, one of their team members was in her own battle against breast cancer; Maggi, a Senior Project Engineer for LCS, was diagnosed in 2009 and has fought a successful battle to overcome the disease. "It was really difficult to see one of our own team members going through this battle," Skinner says.

Maggi is a highly talented and kind woman, who works hard in all aspects of her life.  Since college, she has completed beautiful design-build work for private, wealthy clients, although "nothing has been as satisfying as building a quality laboratory and technical facility that helps the scientists, technicians, and corporate staff to have a facility that is highly functional and attractive at a reasonable cost," states Maggi. Since joining LCS, she has worked diligently building labs and administrative offices for a number of clients, including Quest Diagnostics and Clarient, Inc. And, it was these two companies that ended up playing a key role in her early diagnosis of breast cancer. Today, Maggi is focused on her recovery, work, and recent engagement to her wonderful boyfriend. She is a member of Team LCS and participated in the Race for the Cure event.

According to the Susan G. Komen website, http://www.komenoc.org/race, in California alone, there are more than 21,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Sadly, breast cancer will take the lives of 4,000 women this year. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.

With exceptional cancer and breast cancer diagnostic, research and drug development clients such as Clarient, Quest Diagnostics, Agendia, Genzyme, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Abraxis Bioscience, US Labs and the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute, LCS was proud to be supporters and fundraisers at the 2010 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event.

LCS is also proud to be members of the American Cancer Society (ACS) and a sponsor of the Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA), Southern California Biomedical Council (SoCalBio), and the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineers (ISPE). LCS will continue to build and support cancer research laboratories and participate in the overall fight against breast cancer, and Team LCS looks forward to participating in future Race for the Cure events. So, as we roll through the month of October, let's all take a few moments to consider ways we can show our support for breast cancer awareness, education and fundraising.
