Kornberg Associates Architects Selected to Design Research Areas of Malaysia Genome Institute

MENLO PARK, Calif., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Kornberg Associates | Architects (www.kornberg.com) has been selected to design the research areas of the new Malaysia Genome Institute. Ken Kornberg, president and founder, made the announcement.

The Malaysia Genome Institute (GENOMalaysia; http://genome.ukm.my/) is a network-based not-for-profit research organization launched by the Malaysian government in April 2005. The institute, located in Bangi, Selangor (Malaysia's most populous state; located in the center of the country), engages in discovery research of tropical bioresources through projects on genome sequencing, comparative and functional genomics, and structural biology.

"We selected Kornberg Associates | Architects to ensure that the new project will meet international research standards," said Prof. Dr. Nor Mahadi, the institute's Director General.

The 200,000 square-foot project will include biology and chemistry/sequencing/teaching/ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) laboratories, public information and display areas, large seminar/auditorium room and a data center. Kornberg is also providing construction administration services for the project, slated for completion in Spring 2010.
