Informationen zum grauen Star

Ein grauer Star – auch Katarakt genannt – ist eine Trübung der normalerweise klaren Linse des Auges. Abhängig von seiner Größe und Lage kann das normale Sehvermögen beeinträchtigt werden. Die meisten Katarakte treten bei über 55-Jährigen auf, gelegentlich sind aber auch Säuglinge und Kleinkinder betroffen. Die Behandlung des grauen Stars richtet sich nach dem Umfang, in dem er das Sehvermögen beeinträchtigt. Wenn ein Katarakt so weit fortschreitet, dass die Betroffenen bei normalen alltäglichen Aufgaben behindert werden, kann eine Operation erforderlich sein. Bei einer Kataraktoperation wird die erkrankte Linse entfernt und durch eine künstliche Linse ersetzt.[2]
