Implantation einer revolutionären akkommodativen Linse bei Katarakt-Patienten in deutschen Augenzentren im Rahmen einer internationalen klinischen Studie

BERLIN, 18. August 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Vier führende deutsche Augenzentren nehmen zurzeit Katarakt-Patienten in eine internationale klinische Studie auf, in der eine Intraokularlinse (IOL) geprüft werden soll. Die Linse soll das Sehvermögen bei allen Entfernungen verbessern, so dass die Betroffenen nach der Operation möglicherweise keine Lese- oder Gleitsichtbrille mehr benötigen. Die neue Linse, die unter dem Namen FluidVision Accommodating Intraocular Lens (FluidVision akkomodative Intraokularlinse) vertrieben wird, wird Patienten implantiert, die sich an den teilnehmenden Prüfzentren in Berlin, Bochum, Heidelberg und Stuttgart einer Kataraktoperation unterziehen.

Jährlich werden in Deutschland etwa 600 000 Kataraktoperationen durchgeführt.[1]

„Wenn wir älter werden, verliert die natürliche Linse an Flexibilität, wodurch Lesen und allgemein die Fokussierung im Nahbereich zunehmend schwerer fällt. Daher benötigen Millionen von Menschen über 50 eine Brille zum Lesen und für die Nahsicht. Bei vielen Betroffenen tritt zusätzlich ein Katarakt (d. h. grauer Star) auf, der die Sehkraft weiter schwächt ", so Prof. Dr. med. Gerd U. Auffarth, leitender Prüfarzt an der Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg. „Behandlungsmöglichkeiten, die sowohl die Nah- als auch die Fernsicht wiederherstellen, stehen derzeit nur begrenzt zur Verfügung. Daher sind die Betroffenen auf eine Lese- oder Gleitsichtbrille bzw. Kontaktlinsen angewiesen, um wieder richtig sehen zu können. Ergebnisse einer früheren Pilotstudie zur FluidVision-Linse sind sehr ermutigend.
