IONpath Shares Comprehensive Studies of Enumeration of Immune Cells in Solid Tumors in Educational Webinar
Date:9/22/2018

Understanding the role of distinct cellular phenotypes in tissue function, development, and pathogenesis requires tools that can rapidly and consistently quantify the expression of multiple proteins while preserving spatial information.

Multiplexed Ion Beam Imaging by Time-Of-Flight (MIBI-TOF) detects elements from hydrogen to uranium, permitting simultaneous measurement of 40+ labeled antibodies along with histochemical stains and native biological elements.

In a recent publication, A Structured Tumor-Immune Microenvironment in Triple Negative Breast Cancer Revealed by Multiplexed Ion Beam Imaging (Cell, Sept 2018), the authors used this capability to analyze infiltrating immune cell populations in archival formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue sections from 41 triple negative breast cancer patients (TNBC). Spatial enrichment analysis showed immune mixed and compartmentalized tumors, coinciding with expression of PD1, PD-L1 and IDO in a cell-type and location-specific manner.

During this webinar, which is sponsored by IONpath, participants will learn tumor expression and immune composition are interrelated with histological context that correlates with overall survival in TNBC. The speaker for this event will be Dr. Mike Angelo, associate profession in the Department of Pathology, Stanford University.

Angelo is interested in optimizing MIBI and other mass reporter-based technologies further with the goal of identifying new transcriptional and translational signatures in solid tissue malignancies, and in allergic and other immunological disorders, that can be used to improve clinical diagnosis and treatment. His academic and professional background spans across the fields of physics, biochemistry, electrical engineering, and medicine.

LabRoots will host the webinar October 2, 2018, beginning at 9 a.m. PDT, noon eastern. To learn more about this event, discover the continuing education credits offered, or to register for free, click here.
