Date:12/3/2013

JERICHO, N.Y., Dec. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Care Compliance Strategies, Inc. (HCCS), the leading provider of online healthcare compliance and competency training, today announced the release of a new online training course, EMTALA Compliance. The new course educates healthcare employees, especially emergency department and labor and delivery personnel, on the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) regulation.

Also known as the "patient anti-dumping law", the EMTALA regulations define the obligations of Medicare participating hospitals when patients present in the Emergency Department or on hospital grounds seeking emergency medical care.  EMTALA enforcement at hospital facilities by the federal government has been increasing, resulting in many high profile and costly settlements.  All affected personnel must be educated on their role and responsibility under the law to protect their facility from civil monetary penalties, lawsuits and potentially, exclusion from the federal Medicare program.

The EMTALA Compliance online training course educates staff on topics such as:

  • Basic requirements of EMTALA
  • When EMTALA obligations end
  • Emergency department personnel responsibilities
  • Emergency department walk outs
  • Transferring and receiving patients
  • EMTALA violations

HCCS' online training courses provide hospitals and healthcare institutions with an engaging and interactive learning experience. HCCS' courses enhance job performance and promote compliance with ethical, legal and accreditation guidelines. Through a unique multimedia experience, HCCS courseware explains regulatory compliance rules and improves patient care. This course is SCORM and AICC compliant for easy integration with HCCS' SimPL Learning Platform or your organization's own Learning Management System.

"The EMTALA regulations carry hefty consequences and fines for violations, making training a key component to compliance with the law," says Ben Diamond, President of HCCS. "This new training course increases staff awareness and promotes proper staff response, reducing the hospital's risk even under emergency conditions."

A free demonstration of the EMTALA Compliance course is available now at www.hccs.com.
