Green Makeup Artist Paige Padgett Says, 'Get Smart'
Date:10/30/2008

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- BREAKING NEWS: Paige Padgett has been selected as one of three green makeup artists for the 18th Annual Environmental Media Awards on November 13th at The Ebell of Los Angeles providing artistry for presenters, honorees and board members.

Blush, lipstick, eye shadow - check. Ecological impact... who knows!! For most women, the idea of being "green" or eco-conscious often doesn't happen in the bathroom. Up to 60% of what goes on your skin is absorbed, so what you put ON your body is as important as what you put IN your body.

This was true for Paige Padgett, until one day, several years ago, when she decided that she wanted to incorporate her eco-friendly lifestyle efforts into her passion--makeup. Since that day, Paige has made it her goal to be environmentally conscious in her work, investigating ingredients, packaging and chemicals. "My brand of beauty is eco-conscious with respect to the environment and the individual. I call it Smart Beauty."

Paige is a REALIST, not a naturalist. You are more likely to see her in high heels and designer jeans than in hemp clothing and Birkenstocks. "I like modern conveniences and technology as much as the next girl, but if I can help people reduce their CCF (Cosmetic Carbon Footprint) by even just a little bit, then I am happy."

Here are just a few tips Paige Padgett offers:

You have to read the ingredients. Chemicals to watch out for:

A. Parabens--a preservative linked to breast cancer, weight gain

and hormone disruption. Its prefixes are ethyl, methyl, butyl,

isobutyl or propyl.

B. Talc--contains a chemical that is similar to asbestos and can

increase the risk of certain ovarian cancers.

C. Fragrance--this term is used to mask hundreds of chemical

ingredients includi
