The Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO) is set to examine the growing evidence base for complementary therapies and practices at its 10th International Conference, to be held October 20-22 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. This evidence involves the rapid translation of scientific literature into today’s standard care and best practice guidelines in the treatment of cancer patients. Medical clinicians in attendance will be encouraged to incorporate into practice the evidence-based approaches presented during the conference.
“This year’s conference theme, From Bedside to Bench to Best Practices, will draw researchers and clinicians, alike, interested in both expanding the science of integrative oncology and how to apply the findings into cancer care. SIO is truly an interdisciplinary and inter-professional organization and its conference fosters dialogue among oncology and integrative medicine practitioners and scientists along with patient advocates,” said SIO President Dr. Susan Bauer-Wu.
Today a significant portion of cancer patients use some type of integrative or complementary therapeutic approaches throughout their cancer journey. In addition to conventional therapies, they want to learn about and utilize an integrative approach to personalized comprehensive care. Integrative oncology interventions have been shown to decrease some of the side effects of traditional cancer treatment, allowing many patients to tolerate their full, prescriptive course, thereby improving clinical outcomes
