Stattdessen besteht die eigentliche Entdeckung der Nobelpreisträger darin, eine veränderte Zelle geschaffen zu haben, die mit einer pluripotenten Stammzelle des menschlichen Körpers nichts gemein hat. Darüber hinaus erklärte die Akademie fälschlicherweise, dass „diese Entdeckung zur Schaffung völlig neuer Forschungsgebiete geführt hat und hochinteressante neue Möglichkeiten zur Erforschung dieser Mechanismen bietet", was ebenfalls unzutreffend ist.
