Enerkem Named A Top Global Cleantech Company

MONTREAL, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ - Enerkem Inc., a leading waste-to-biofuels company, today announced that it was named a 2010 Global Cleantech 100 Company by the Cleantech Group in collaboration with the Guardian News and Media, and sponsored by Autodesk.

The prestigious Global Cleantech 100 highlights the most promising private clean technology companies from all around the world. In the eyes of the world's cleantech experts, these companies are the most likely to make the most significant market impact over the next five to 10 years. In all, 4,616 nominations were received from 3,260 unique sources, generating a long list of 3,138 companies drawn from 50 countries. Two hundred and eighteen companies were presented to the expert panel for final input, resulting in a final list of 100 companies from 14 countries.

The final list of 100 private companies was selected based on the company's excellence, uniqueness and reach of their solution, their market dynamics and size, as well as their ability to execute. Enerkem's clean technology, which converts municipal solid waste into advanced fuels and chemicals, as well as its advanced state in a growing market, helped Enerkem obtain a spot on the list.

"Enerkem is thrilled to be named a Global Cleantech 100 Company. As a Company committed to offering a solution to some of the planet's most pressing environmental and energy challenges, we are honoured to receive this recognition," said Vincent Chornet, President and Chief Executive Officer of Enerkem. "By converting garbage into fuel, Enerkem is contributing to a better world while providing clean energy. Imagine, as we do, the application and its impact on a global scale."

"The second Global Cleantech 100 shines a spotlight on which companies and which technology areas the global innovation community is currently most excited about, from a commercial standpoint," said Richard Youngman, MD, Europe & VP, Global Research at Cleantech Group. "The Global Cleantech 100 list represents the most rigorous, serious attempt made yet to provide a scorecard of the progress that is being made by cleantech companies."

The Global Cleantech 100 list was revealed at the Cleantech Forum New York, which took place in New York from October 11-13.  The Global Cleantech 100 is organized by the Cleantech Group in association with the Guardian Media Group. The selection process was conducted through nominations, Cleantech Group research and a panel of industry experts.  About Enerkem
