El profesor y oncólogo médico Tim Eisen se une al panel del ASTELLAS INNOVATION DEBATE 2013

a casi el doble que para el año 1975, podría parecer alarmante. Pero refleja realmente el enorme éxito de la medicina. Por primera vez en la historia las personas viven lo suficiente como para desarrollar una enfermedad que está muy relacionada con ser mayor, mientras que en el pasado hubiéramos fallecido de algo diferente antes - quizá de un ataque al corazón. Así que la pregunta ahora es ¿ cómo podemos ayudar mejor a estas personas a superar el cáncer? Hay algunas aproximaciones muy prometedoras en el horizonte, y nuestra capacidad para diagnosticar el cáncer en fase temprana es cada vez mejor. Así que para mí ya existe otra revolución puesta en marcha".

Además del profesor Eisen, cuya investigación se centra en el desarrollo de nuevos tratamientos para enfermedades avanzadas, estará el profesor John Appleby, responsable de economía del King's Fund; la emisora y periodista Baronesa Joan Bakewell; la Premio Nobel y doctora Elizabth H. Blackburn, profesora Morris Herzstein en Biología y Psicología en el Departamento de Bioquímica y Biofísica de la University of California, San Francisco; la política y activista en campañas Baronesa Sally Greengross y el profesor Tom Kirkwood, Decano de Envejecimiento de la University of Newcastle.

Presidido por Lord Robert Winston, profesor de Ciencias y Sociedad y Profesor Emérito de Estudios de Fertilidad del Imperial College London, el Astellas Innovation Debate 2013 explorará el papel de la innovación al tiempo que la sociedad se enfrenta a los retos vitales resultantes del envejecimiento de la población. Los temas centrales a debate serán los siguientes:
