E-Rad Solutions Selects Compressus' Enterprise Systems Integration Technology to Fuel Entry Into Teleradiology Market

MEDxConnect(TM) System Provides Ability to Integrate with Multiple

Disparate PACS and RIS Systems Simultaneously to Improve Physician

Efficiency and Diagnostic Turnaround

CHICAGO, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- RSNA Booth #5924 -- Compressus Inc., makers of the MEDxConnect(TM) technology for seamless connectivity and interoperability between diagnostic acquisition devices, PACS, HIS, RIS, and related information systems, announced today that E-Rad Solutions of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., has selected the MEDxConnect System to fuel its entry into the teleradiology market. The company made the announcement here at 93rd Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), November 25-30, 2007.

E-Rad Solutions is an innovative teleradiology company offering customized support services, including on call, overflow, on site, subspecialty, and routine coverage in all modalities. Using state of the art technology to help hospitals and radiology groups improve workflow, enhance delivery of high quality patient care, and optimize satisfaction and financial performance of radiology practices, E-Rad Solutions will implement the MEDxConnect technology on behalf of its first client, a three hospital group in Florida.

"Looking to launch a new service model designed to simplify and automate the teleradiology process for our clients, we evaluated a number of PACS and RIS technology providers. What we found was that only Compressus provides the ability to truly integrate into multiple disparate PACS and RIS systems simultaneously without the need to be tied to one platform," said Mark Gonwa, MD, radiologist and president of E-Rad Solutions. "This flexibility gives E-Rad Solutions a cost-effective solution to provide comprehensive teleradiology services with seamless, automated connectivity throughout the entire process, from order entry to delivery of the diagnostic report to referring physicians to automatic posting of the report to the RIS system without a manual fax, email or data re-entry."

The MEDxConnect System acts as a communications hub, enabling various PACS, HIS, RIS and other data information systems to connect and communicate across the Enterprise. Utilizing HL7, DICOM, and other standards, the System helps control the flow of images, reports, messages, standard patient demographics and other important data for diagnosis and treatment planning of a patient between otherwise independent and disparate systems.

The integrated imaging and data management solution from Compressus is designed to support a facility's current and expanded workload and provide an infrastructure for sustained growth. Building the functionality required for remote connectivity, the system enables users to access diagnostic images and reports in the existing data stores at each facility, increasing the level of medical care while reducing the associated costs.

"The Compressus technology gives us the opportunity to maximize the workflow of the radiologists we engage and provide premium services customized to our clients' needs," said Stuart Gardner, chief technology officer of E-Rad Solutions.

According to Dr. Gonwa, to successfully build a complete and flexible system to efficiently manage the diagnostic and reporting radiological services for their clients from multiple referring organizations, the implementation had to address the many complexities unique to the teleradiology industry. These include the ability to retrieve and store diagnostic images on DICOM archives, the ability to manage their activities via a patient work list generated from multiple PACS or network systems, and the ability to route images to participating physicians based upon any combination of modality, body part, and/or referring physician. Finally, to maximize productivity and reduce spikes in workload, physicians have the ability to access patients work lists throughout the network.

"Because the MEDxConnect System emphasizes enhanced distribution and sharing of digital images and data throughout the diagnostic and reporting process, it gives us the flexibility and scalability to help our clients create high volume, high efficiency radiology services with virtually unlimited workload capabilities," Dr. Gonwa added.

"We are pleased that E-Rad Solutions has selected the MEDxConnect System as the engine to drive a new custom service model in the teleradiology industry," said Janine Broda, vice president and general manager for Compressus Medical Solutions Division. "The system affords improvements in the diagnostic process by providing subspecialisty radiologists access to complete patient information and prior studies and enables the demographic data, reports, prior images and the primary study to be wrapped up and delivered in a format never experienced by healthcare users or suppliers. Once the study is interpreted, the automatic deposit of the report into the originating RIS completes the delivery of unprecedented connectivity that improves diagnostic turnaround and the productivity of teleradiology and radiological service providers."
