DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products Launches Innovative New Food Ingredient

DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products Company LLC is excited to announce that it has launched its first ingredient for the U.S. food market. Zemea® USP Propanediol is a natural solvent and humectant that can be used to replace petroleum-based propylene glycol or glycerin in a variety of food and beverage products.

Zemea® USP is a natural, 100 percent biobased ingredient made from corn sugar through fermentation. It is an environmentally sustainable alternative to petroleum-based glycols and glycerin, where the product’s humectancy, preservative effects, unique solubility and taste properties may be beneficial in food and beverage applications.

Zemea® has attained all of the required regulatory approvals for use in the U.S. food industry. It has received non-objection from the FDA for its self-affirmed GRAS status and is certified GRAS by the Flavor & Extracts Manufacturers Association (FEMA). It is certified and tested according to the requirements of the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) and the United States Pharmacoepia (USP). It is certified 100 percent biobased by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and has both Kosher and Halal certifications. Our manufacturing plant, located in Loudon, Tenn., is licensed with the state of Tennessee as a food manufacturing facility and is registered with the FDA.
