Dr. Szczepan Baran Appointed to Board of Directors at Americans for Medical Progress
Date:9/30/2013

Winston Salem, NC (PRWEB) September 30, 2013

Dr. Szczepan Baran, President of the Veterinary Bioscience Institute (VBI, http://www.vetbiotech.com) was recently added to the Board of Directors for Americans for Medical Progress (AMP, http://www.amprogress.org).

The Americans for Medical Progress organization is a group of scientists, veterinarians and physicians who support the humane and ethical use of animals in research. The goal of the organization is to promote outreach to other medical professionals as well as the public on dispelling the myths surrounding animal research. In addition, they discuss the benefits and accomplishments that have been made thanks to animal research.

“I am very honored to be chosen to be a member of the board of directors for this very important organization,” states Dr. Baran. “The goals of Americans for Medical Progress are very similar to those of the Veterinary Bioscience Institute. We both heavily promote and support the 3R’s of research [Reduction, Refinement and Replacement of animals in research], but we also know that without the benefits of being able to utilize animals in research, we would not have a fraction of the drugs, medical devices or therapies that we now have to offer better, longer, more disease-free lives for countless humans.”

“Having Dr. Baran sit on the Board of Directors of AMP is a further validation of his work in the laboratory animal community,” states James Kehler, Vice President of Global Business Development for VBI. “I am very excited to see how his contributions continue to shape the future of laboratory animal medicine.”

The Veterinary Bioscience Institute provides continuing education and training to the life sciences community. They have revolutionized surgical training by validating knowledge transfer through an online platform. They have successfully implemented a hybrid model of online learning complemented with hands on training that directly promotes and upholds the tenets of the 3 R’s of animal use in research.
