Digital Healthcare Announces Cincinnati Eye Institute is Latest Retasure Reading Center

Country's Largest Ophthalmology Practice Will Assess for Diabetic

Retinopathy, a Leading Cause of Blindness

WAKE FOREST, N.C., Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Healthcare, a Wake Forest, NC company specializing in retinal risk assessment for diabetics, announced today that Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI) is the latest ophthalmology clinic to connect with the Retasure retinal imaging system.

CEI is the largest ophthalmology practice in the United States with over 45 doctors across 20 locations. Founded over 50 years ago, CEI is today considered one of the world's premier ophthalmic treatment, research and education centers. CEI has internationally recognized specialists in virtually every ophthalmologic sub-specialty. Each subspecialty group participates in cutting edge development and ongoing clinical studies, and collectively CEI physicians set the standard for state of the art vision care.

"We are proud that such a prestigious facility as Cincinnati Eye Institute will partner as a Retasure reading center," said Scott Sanner, Senior Vice President, North American Operations of Digital healthcare. "Cincinnati Eye is committed to providing the highest level of eye care to enhance the quality of patients' lives. Their physicians share our belief that providing patients greater access to eye assessments helps in the fight against diabetic retinopathy and blindness."

"Cincinnati Eye Institute has long set the standard for advanced eye care," said Daniel M. Miller, M.D., Ph.D. "Retasure provides a solution that truly enhances patient care by making retinal assessments for diabetics readily available. Fewer than 50% of the country's 21 million diabetics have annual eye exams, but Retasure allows primary care physicians to capture retinal images in their offices. Retinal specialists are able to remotely evaluate these images, and ultimately the process ensures high-risk patients have an accurate and timely referral to an eye-care specialist."

The FDA-approved Retasure program provides a simple, affordable, and non-invasive solution that allows physicians to capture their patients' retinal images during a three to five minute procedure. Images are transmitted over a secure, HIPPA compliant network to an accredited reading center. A state-licensed and board certified ophthalmologist reviews the images and results are returned to the original physician within 72 hours.

There are an estimated 21 million diabetic patients in the US, but only about half have any retinal assessments, despite a high risk of diabetic retinopathy. The National Eye Institute indicates diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness among working age American adults. More than a million patients around the world have received a retinal risk assessment using Digital Healthcare software.
