DIA and the International Federation for Animal Health (IFAH) will host the third Global Animal Health Conference: Developing Global Animal Health Products to Support Food Security and Sustainability from Oct. 17 to 18 at the Sheraton Crystal City Hotel, 1800 Jefferson Davis Highway, in Arlington, Va. The conference will bring together thought leaders from government, academia, industry and international organizations to discuss global challenges in animal health product development and share opportunities for global regulatory convergence to ensure access to safe and effective veterinary medicines.
“Veterinary medicinal products play a key role in promoting animal health,” said Susan Cantrell, DIA director for North America. “This conference provides a platform to discuss ways to improve the development and use of animal health products to support food security and sustainability.”
Jimmy Smith, director general of the International Livestock Research Institute, Kenya, will deliver the keynote presentation: Benefit/Harmonization of Requirements for Sustainability of Food Products. Additional conference sessions include:
Developing Regions Perspectives, Oct. 17, 3 p.m.: Professionals in less-developed countries will discuss what they consider to be the most important aspects of animal health products related to food security and sustainability. David Mackay, DVM, head of veterinary medicines and product data management, European Medicines Agency, United Kingdom, will chair the session.
- Session 5—Global Regulatory Convergence, Oct. 18, 9:15 a.m.: A range of activities to advance regulatory convergence are underway. Participants will discuss the benefits and potential risks, if any, of closer convergence on the availability of animal health products relevant for global food security and sustainability. The session will be chaired by David Mackay, DVM, head of veterinary medicines and product data management, European Medicines Agency, United Kingdom.
- Where Do We Go From Here?, Oct. 18, 1:30 p.m.: A panel discussion and audience participation will highlight the findings of previous sessions and put forward recommendations for next steps in meeting the conference objectives. Steven D. Vaughn, DVM, director of the Office of New Animal Drug Evaluation, Food and Drug Administration, United States, will chair the session.
