HOUSTON, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- SeqWright, a world-wide leader in custom genomic and molecular biology services, announced today that it has been granted a California clinical laboratory license. This license enables SeqWright to utilize its DNA sequencing and Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) Genotyping expertise in order to provide genetic tests to California residents and represents a significant step forward in the shift towards personalized medicine. With its CLIA certification and a California clinical laboratory license, SeqWright is capable of performing validated genetic tests on individuals throughout the majority of the United States.
As personalized medicine becomes a more prominent component of modern healthcare, SeqWright stands poised to leverage its significant experience in molecular biology and genomic analysis services in order to expand its share of the market for personalized genetic tests. However, it is important to note that SeqWright generally does not develop and market such tests internally and therefore, its role would be that of a support laboratory working with industry partners on previously developed and validated assays.
On a similar note, SeqWright has recently been named as an Authorized Service Provider for NimbleGen Capture Arrays. These arrays enable whole-exome and custom-targeted enrichment of genomic DNA. The enriched genomic DNA can then be sequenced on one of SeqWright's two types of next generation genomic analysis platforms; AB SOLiD or 454 Titanium for analysis. This capability opens up the potential for a quantum leap in personalized medicine within the near future by dramatically decreasing the time and cost associated with sequencing all coding DNA (the exome) as well as custom-targeted regions within an individual's genome.
