"I am honored to have been asked to deliver the Commencement address this year," said Michael J. Collins. "UT has one of the strongest chemistry and biochemistry programs in the country with very talented and promising students. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to share my experiences with them and I appreciate them sharing their special day with me."

Collins told the audience about his time at the University of Texas at Austin and how it helped shape his life. He drew comparisons between the economic outlook when he graduated and the world that today's graduates will be facing, predicting that the same economic trends that brought the prosperity of the past twenty-five years will again bring rapid economic growth in the next five years.

"Technology will continue to transform the world we live in and most of the transformational innovations will be chemistry and biochemistry based," said Collins. "All of you have chosen a great field of endeavor and your futures should be very bright."

Collins encouraged his audience to be passionate about their dreams, to explore and take risks, and to not be intimidated by people who tell them that something is impossible. Collins said, "Have fun doing the impossible!"
