Bayer CropScience Releases Video About Making Science Make Sense Program At Durham Performance Learning Center

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., June 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer CropScience (, one of the world's top innovative crop science companies in the areas of crop protection, non-agricultural pest control, seeds and traits, has announced the release of a video featuring the organization's work at Durham Performance Learning Center through its national award-winning program, Making Science Make Sense (MSMS). MSMS advances science literacy through hands-on, inquiry-based science learning, employee volunteerism and public education. Through its work with the Durham Performance Learning Center, Bayer aims to showcase the exciting parts of science to increase interest among students and give them more of a hands-on background in science. The video is available for viewing at:

Bayer's MSMS team has led biology labs at Durham Performance Learning Center for the past two years. As a result of the team's efforts, more than 50 percent of the students participating in the MSMS biology lab passed the End of Course exam. The center's science teacher credits the students' success to participation in the MSMS labs.

"At Bayer CropScience, one of our sayings is 'science for a better life,'" said Adrian Percy, vice president, development and market support at Bayer CropScience. "Several students at the Durham Performance Learning Center would not have graduated without passing biology. Helping these students graduate not only helps them with their future career, it also has a substantial impact on our state's economic health."

- MSMS is one of Bayer's 300 worldwide corporate responsibility programs.

- Each semester, Bayer CropScience's MSMS team leads biology students through approximately six two-hour labs. The labs are interactive and designed to cover key biological concepts.

- Between 10 and 20 students participate in each lab. In the 2011 spring semester, students took three field trips to the Bayer CropScience campus: Crop Protection Headquarters (RTP); Biotechnology Innovation Center (Morrisville); and Environmental Science Field Technology (Clayton).
