Bayer CropScience Launches Third Annual Young Farmer Sustainability Award Program
Date:12/12/2012

Research Triangle Park, NC (PRWEB) December 12, 2012

Bayer CropScience uses science and innovation to uncover the most sustainable solutions for its customers, its employees and its communities. Now through January 24, 2013, the crop protection company is asking young agricultural producers to share their stories on how they are demonstrating excellence in business and environmental sustainability in its 2013 Young Farmer Sustainability Award program.

To apply, any farmer or rancher age 40 and under who receives at least half of his or her income from farming and farm-related ventures, must complete the entry form, along with the essay questions, and send a letter of reference from an accountant, banker, input dealer/representative or agribusiness leader.

A panel of industry experts will select a winner in early February 2013. The winner will be announced at Bayer's annual Ag Issues Forum just before the 2013 Commodity Classic in Orlando, Fla. later that month.

Entrants are judged on entrepreneurial initiative and new approaches to farming (50%), environmental and other on-farm sustainability efforts (30%), and economic stability and sustainability (20%). First Place wins a new laptop computer and all-expense paid trips to the 2013 Commodity Classic and a scholarship to a Farm Journal learning event.

“Young men and women across the United States are tackling agriculture challenges with innovative, sustainable solutions,” said Jim Blome, president and CEO of Bayer CropScience North America. “The Young Farmer Sustainability Award recognizes and supports our next generation of growers—a generation that is critical to meet the demands
