real-time.

WikiAnswers member "Mareibc" took advantage of this format when she improved the answer to: "What is inflammatory breast cancer?" explaining that "Although this type of breast cancer is aggressive, and frightening, if you know the symptoms and are treated immediately, yes, you can be an IBC survivor!"

Offline, Mareibc is an advocate for breast cancer awareness and one of the founding members of the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which was first established online as an answer resource. "People writing in their own questions and answers made many people aware of inflammatory breast cancer all over the world. This same dynamic is what makes WikiAnswers so wonderful."

Visitors don't need to sign up to ask or answer questions, and everyone is encouraged to contribute even a small amount of new, accurate information to any existing topic. Participants thus far have contributed close to a million questions, answers and edits. The individual contributions have grown information resources that are used again and again by almost half a million people a day. WikiAnswers, previously known as FAQ Farm, was acquired by Answers Corporation in November 2006. It was founded in 2002 by Chris Whitten, a pioneer in the Q&A arena.
