demonstrating these skills than Angela Shen-Hsieh, which is why her role in guiding the future of the design profession on the AIGA board is so appropriate and important."

"I'm excited to be able to join the AIGA Board," said Angela Shen-Hsieh. "With the massive growth of digital media and a difficult economy, today's designers are encountering new challenges and opportunities on an unprecedented level. I'm looking forward to bringing my experience in screen-based design and data visualization to help members of AIGA to better understand and leverage new digital tools and delivery media."

Angela Shen-Hsieh pursues forms of communication and information delivery that fascinate, inform and prompt people to think. Having received her BA from Columbia and her Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Angela is inspired by a vision of how design can dramatically improve the quality of our lives and work. Through her company, Visual I|O, her work explodes the boundaries of how people interact with the increasingly overwhelming amounts of data now accessible. As its name suggests, Visual I|O is a venture-backed data visualization software company enabling business users and consumers to easily and interactively access, interpret and learn from information they work with everyday. Visual I|O's focus is on "the last 18 inches"--getting data from the computer screen into the human mind--bridging the divide between raw data and actionable meaning through an entirely new graphical way to navigate and interpret data.

Angela has been profiled by leading media including Fast Company -- who dubbed her as a "rising star charting the future" of business and design innovation, and by BusinessWeek as one of ten "cutting edge designers pushing the limits of design."
