Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) February 10, 2010 – The American Filtration and Separations Society (AFS) is offering Air Filtration and Gas/Solid Separation Training on March 22nd in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
AFS is holding its 23rd Annual Conference, March 22-25, 2010 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. There will be eleven courses held on March 22nd. Five of these courses are on the topics of air filtration, gas/solid filtration and separation, and air filter media.
In the "Basic Gas/Air Filtration & Separation" course, attendees will learn the overall spectrum of gas/solid separation. They will gain the basic understanding of the principles behind gas filtration so they can determine what type of filter will meet their requirements. There is an overview of the various competing technologies.
This course will cover; Particles and Particle Properties; Principles of Gas Filtration; Gas Filtration Equipment; Gas Filtration Media; Filter Aids; and Gas Filter Performance, Testing and Standards.
The “Basic Gas/Air Filtration & Separation” course is a full day 8 hour course.
Two complementary courses are “Nonwoven Air Filtration Media” and “Electrostatic Charging and Electrets for Air Filter Media”. These are each half day courses, with one being offered in the morning on March 22nd and the other is held in the afternoon.
In “Nonwoven Air Filtration Media” attendees will be introduced to filtration mechanisms, processes for making fibrous filter media, specifications of filter media and filtration systems. Then they will discover the characteristics of fibrous filter media. These characteristics include packing density and porosity, experimentally calculated pore size, pore size distribution, experimentally calculated fiber size, and theoretically calculated pore size, and air permeability pressure drop.
In “Electrostatic Charging and Electrets for Air Filter Media” attendees will discover electrostatic charging methods and improvement of filtration efficiency. This includes corona charging theory, corona charging techniques, triboelectrification, polarization, induction and liquid contact charging.
Attendees will also be introduced to requirements of electrical properties of a material to make an electret, electrical characterization of electret, particle capturing of an electret, properties of electrets by particle loading and effect of fabric defects on the degradation of a filter media.
Two additional complementary courses are “Gas/Solid Separation with Fabric Filters” and “Gas/Solid Separation with Cyclones”. These are each half day courses, with one being offered in the morning on March 22nd and the other is held in the afternoon.
“Gas/Solid Separation with Fabric Filters” introduces the attendee to the mechanisms of filtration, testing of fabric filter, testing of filter for dust retention, effect of nano fibers on filter performance, filtration of ultra fine particles, test methods for reverse pulse jet cleaning, evaluation of bag house for performance, effect of size distribution on the filter performance, types of cleaning, high temperature filtration, and case studies on evaluation of filter fabric for gas solid separation.
In “Gas/Solid Separation with Cyclones” attendees will discover the types of flow cyclones, performance characteristics, the effect of design variables on the performance of the cyclone, the effect of operating variables on the performance of the cyclone, the effect of inlet duct shape on cyclone performance, a checklist for evaluation of existing cyclone systems, the importance of Vortex breaker, uniflow cyclone performance, uniflow cyclone application, applications of reverse flow cyclone, and case studies in various industries.
All attendees of the short courses receive certificates and are awarded CEU credit.
There are a total of eleven courses with the other six courses related to water and liquid filtration and separation.
