AG Mednet Selected By Massachusetts General Hospital to Transport 3D Post-Processing Images
Date:9/24/2007

BOSTON, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- AG Mednet, the world's largest diagnostic imaging exchange network, today announced it has been selected by the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) to transport images from remote sites that require 3D post-processing services to the MGH 3D Laboratory, and return images resulting from the 3D process.

"We decided to launch the MGH Tele3D service to offer other hospitals and imaging centers the same level of clinical quality, consistency and reliability available at MGH, and to make available to the broader imaging community the specialized expertise that we have developed," said Gordon J. Harris, Ph.D., director of the MGH 3D Imaging Service and Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. "We needed an infrastructure that would be highly reliable, provide high performance in the transfer of studies with thousand of images, and integrate natively to the various PACS and rendering systems used by our clients, and in our lab. By connecting our 3D capabilities with a network of hospitals and imaging centers, MGH hopes to create important benefits for patients and for the imaging community as a whole."

MGH's 3D Laboratory provides a way for radiologists and referring physicians to maximize information from CT and MRI exams, and readily apply that knowledge to diagnoses, treatment and surgical planning. Since Structured 3D Imaging, when performed by experienced experts, can summarize the clinical information in large sets of cross-sectional scans into a reduced number of 3D images, studies are easier and faster to read, increasing clinical productivity. The implications for enhanced patient care are many, as 3D imaging:

-- minimizes exploratory surgery

-- allows for non-invasive surgical planning

-- reduces operating time

-- minimizes damage to healthy tissues by targeting treatment area

-- serves as a visual tool for patient education

-- reduces healthcare costs
