Available now at http://www.PODS-hosting.com, “POD” comes from the fact that each website plus its elements such as a database, mail server, apache webserver, IP number and such, is hosted in a private and secure environment, using cloud technology. This private space is the pod, which is derived from ‘peas in a pod’ or a capsule.
The capsule concept means each client’s virtual server is not sharing resources with other websites, nor can it suffer corruption or interference from them.
PODS Hosting is deliberately and aggressively priced to compete on cost with cheap shared hosting, and even provides the simplicity of a shared hosting account’s easy self-service control panel. However it comes with the power and versatility of a Virtual Private Server (VPS) using “cloud” technology.
Aimed directly at people running an online store or similar business that demands high powered hosting, the user’s account can be easily upgraded in the future by purchasing more “PODS” as needed.
CEO Wam van Strij de Regt explains that PODS wasn’t originally intended as an abbreviation like ‘Payment On Delivery’. “Two of our early adopters both asked if PODS stood for ‘Platform on Demand Service’, and we decided that yes, yes it did!”
Those early adopter enthusiasts were clients already familiar with the PLANT Hosting company, which has been supplying hosting services since 1995.
So why a new division or company? Why not just add to the product list of PLANT?
