Description Introducing SilverSNAP Stain for Mass Spectrometry Applications

In the age of the proteome, mass spectrometry (MS) has emerged as a powerful protein identification and characterization tool. Silver staining of 2-D gels is now an important intermediate step in a set of procedures that leads ultimately to identification of specific proteins in the proteome by mass fingerprinting methods. The sensitivity of silver staining and the power of MS for protein identification are the drivers for the most frequently asked question about silver stains, "Is this silver stain compatible with mass spectrometry?" Not all silver stain formulations are compatible with MS, nor are all MS compatible silver stains created equally.

Pierce recognizes the need for a silver stain that is not only compatible with MS applications, but truly optimized to provide the best results. Pierce researchers fine-tuned the chemistry of our SilverSNAP Stain and made adjustments to the protocol to provide peak kit performance, including flexibility, reliability and robustness in MS-targeted applications. The new SilverSNAP Stain for Mass Spectrometry Kit bundles a high-performance stain with an efficient gel-destaining chemistry and an optimized protocol. The result is an MS-compatible product that delivers outstanding sensitivity and maintains favorable conditions for the recovery and identification of protein by MS.
