Description The PROTEAN II xi 2-D system runs both gel dimensions in the same cell. Up to 16 first-dimension IEF tube gels can be separated in a single run using the tube gel adaptors, which snap onto the cooling core in much the same manner as the slab gel assembly. While the tube gels are running, the second-dimension slab gels may be cast in the casting stand. The 20 cm long slab gel option provides extra gel length for optimal 2-D resolution. Beveled plates provided with the 2-D cell, and the accessibility of the slab gel surface, make it easy to position tube gels on the slab gel without an agarose overlay. With notched glass plates, up to 4 second-dimension slab gels can be run at a time. If more gels are required, the PROTEAN II xi multi-cell provides a 12 gel capacity while using identical cell components.
