Low volume: traditional crystallography plates have 24 or 48 wells with well volumes of 100s of microliters. For higher throughput, the number of wells has increased to 96 or 384.
High Speed: Dispensing operation must be rapid to prevent evaporation, which can change the concentration of the mother liquor.
Using synQUAD technology, all of these requirements are met. Combinatorial Mixing of Mother Liquors - The proper conditions for growing crystals cannot be determined a priori. Thus, many permutations of reagents are used in making a set of mother liquors. This combinatorial approach to finding optimum growing conditions requires a liquid handling system with the flexibility. synQUAD dispensing can dispense a wide volume of reagents and has been tested with most reagents commonly used for mother liquors.
