Description Bioluminescence assay for monitoring acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity. This is a highly sensitive, very rapid (less than 5 min), non-radioactive and easy to use assay for AChE activity that uses the natural substrate, acetylcholine. A series of coupled enzyme reactions translates the presence of active AChE into a change in luminescence. Inhibitors of AChE are readily detected by an increased luminescence, which is caused by the consumption of ATP. The assay can be adapted for high throughput screening. Application: Luminometer.
