Genomatix, AAAS ink agreement

Genomatix integrates connections map data into BiblioSphere

Genomatix Software GmbH and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) today announced an agreement that allows integration of data from the Signal Transduction Knowledge Environment into Genomatix's BibliospherePE pathway knowledge base and analysis system.

AAAS, publisher of the journal Science, developed the Signal Transduction Knowledge Environment, an enhanced online journal, known as Science's STKE, that also functions as an electronic resource enabling scientists, researchers, students and educators to find, organize, and use information relevant to cell regulation processes. Leading authorities enter their knowledge about cell signaling into the Connections Maps database, which includes data on signaling components and their relationships organized into pathways.

Genomatix developed the BibliospherePE pathway knowledge base and analysis system. It allows for dynamic data-driven network/pathway construction and analysis based on literature, the Genomatix Knowledge Base, and sequence analysis. It is an important component of the microarray data analysis pipeline offered by Genomatix and enables biologists to discover, explore and understand biologically relevant pathways down to the molecular level. Applying the Genomatix pipeline to a researcher's set of genes (for example, from a microarray analysis) generates the full biological network, allowing for functional analysis of the most relevant sub-network and enables understanding of gene regulatory mechanisms on DNA sequence level.

"The STKE database is a great synergistic expansion to our BiblioSPherePE knowledge base. Following our strategy to only include highest quality data backed by well known scientific authorities, I couldn't think of any better source than STKE published by AAAS along with the leading scientific weekly, Science," says Klaus May, head of sales and marketing at Genomatix.'"/>
