Date:11/27/2018

uBiome, the leader in microbial genomics, announces the addition of Dr. Brandon Wuerth, MD, Founder of the website IBDwatch and Gastroenterology Fellow at the University of Louisville, to its Medical Advisory Board. Joining the board of leading scientists and doctors from around the world, Dr. Wuerth will bring to uBiome knowledge and research on IBD. The appointment will help uBiome continue its advancement in human microbiome research.

“Through his website and his practice, Dr. Wuerth has touched the lives of many sufferers of intestinal and gut disorders,” Dr. Jessica Richman, PhD, co-founder and CEO of uBiome, said. “His interest in bringing research about IBD to the public aligns with uBiome’s mission and he will be a great asset to our board of medical advisors.”

Dr. Wuerth completed his internal medicine residency at the Medical University of South Carolina and is currently a second-year Gastroenterology Fellow at the University of Louisville. A sufferer of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) himself, he founded the popular website IBDwatch to broadcast news and research pertaining to IBD to both physicians and patients. His prior research has been primarily focused on gastrointestinal hemorrhage and Clostridium difficile infection, the leading bacterial cause of healthcare-associated diarrhea, and has authored three publications.

About joining uBiome's Medical Advisory Board, Dr. Wuerth said, “I am honored to serve on uBiome’s advisory board as they are a true pioneer in the field and give physicians a useful tool to improve patient care. I’m eager to work with them to advance research on the link between the microbiome and IBD.”

In addition to Dr. Wuerth, the uBiome Scientific Advisory Board also includes Dr. Joseph DeRisi (MacArthur Genius and UCSF professor), Dr. Atul Butte (head of the Institute for Computational Health Sciences at UCSF), Dr. Katherine Pollard (Director, Gladstone Institute for Data Science and Biotechnology), Dr. Joel Palefsky (UCSF School of Medicine professor), Dr. George Church (leading geneticist at Harvard University), Dr. Liz Lipski (Academic Director of Nutrition and Integrative Health Programs at Maryland University of Integrative Health), Dr. Elaine Hsiao, PhD (UCLA), and other leading scientists.
