Springer expands publishing partnership with the Biomedical Engineering Society
Date:3/13/2008

Springer and the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) will launch a new international journal called Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering (CMBE) in March 2008. Springer is already the publisher of the BMES journal Annals of Biomedical Engineering.

Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering will publish first-rate articles in the frontier areas of cellular and molecular bioengineering, thus advancing this rapidly evolving new field that addresses problems at the interface of cellular-molecular biology and engineering. The overarching aim is to foster the understanding of mechanical, chemical, and electrical processes to better understand the integrated systems nature of cellular and molecular processes. The scope of the journal includes behaviors of biomolecules, behaviors of cells, computational modeling of molecules and cells, and experimental methods for cellular and molecular bioengineering. The expert international editorial board is headed by co-editors X. Edward Guo of Columbia University, NY, and David J. Odde of the University of Minnesota.

Shu Chien, President of the BMES, said, The publication of the new journal Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering in the interdisciplinary field of biomedical engineering is one of the most important developments at the BMES in this new century. With the publication of our second official BMES journal, in addition to the Annals of Biomedical Engineering, we have amplified the successful cooperation between BMES and Springer in publishing top-quality journals in biomedical engineering. The two journals will play major roles in accomplishing BMES' mission to promote and enhance biomedical knowledge worldwide and its utilization for the health and well-being of humankind."

Aaron Johnson, Senior Editor, Biomedical Engineering at Springer, said, The Biomedical Engineering Society has long been a leader in the science, translation and application of biomedical engineering research to the impro
