Entrepreneurs wanted for NJIT workshops about how to launch a business

Have a great idea or invention but don't know where to turn? Then consider yourself a candidate for an upcoming day of four workshops for first-time entrepreneurs sponsored by the NJIT Enterprise Development Center and the Alumni Association of NJIT. Set for Jan. 24, 2009, at the NJIT Campus Center from 9:30 a.m. 3 p.m., the event will feature many opportunities for questions and networking to help launch that dream.

"I Have an Idea, Now What?" is the topic scheduled for 10 a.m. featuring Jerry Creighton, Sr. about business plan basics and market assessment. Creighton is the executive director of the NJIT Enterprise Development Center http://www.njit-edc.org/.

A closer look at legal and intellectual property considerations follows at 10:30 a.m. with NJIT alum Ron Panitch, a partner in the law firm Panitch, Schwarze, Belisario & Nadel LLP. http://www.panitchlaw.com/

How and where to find funding on the state, federal and private levels is the focus of a talk at 11 a.m. from Steve Royster, Jr., the Newark Innovation Zone Officer, NJ Economic Development Authority http://www.nj.gov/njbusiness/.

Sheft, associate vice president of technology development at NJIT wraps up at 11:30 a.m. discussing available resources at NJIT to assist a budding entrepreneur.

The group breaks for a box lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m.

The afternoon session includes a candid one-hour panel discussion starting at 12:30 p.m. from already-established Marge Perry, of MZM Construction; George Burke of Book Swim; Leon Baptiste of LB Electric; and Al Limaye of AC Biro. Informal networking follows from 1:30 p.m.-2 p.m.

The NJIT Alumni Club will coordinate this special event. A continental breakfast and box lunch will be available. The format includes a morning session featuring four important topic
