A complete view of complexity in science and society in a new authoritative reference work
Date:7/10/2009

A new unique work published by Springer, the Encyclopedia of Complexity and Systems Science, extends the influence of complexity and system science to a much wider audience than has been possible to date. In eleven volumes, available in print and electronically, it provides an authoritative single source for understanding and applying the concepts of complexity theory together with the tools and measures for analyzing complex systems in all fields of science and engineering.

Written with the help of five Nobel Laureates, Turing Award and Fields Medal winners, and other distinguished researchers and thought leaders, the Encyclopedia assembles for the first time concepts and tools for analyzing complex systems in a wide range of topical areas. These include astrophysics, climate modeling and global warming, DNA computing, earthquake and tsunami prediction, applications of chaos, fractals and self-organization, intelligent systems and machine learning, individual consciousness, social networking, economic processes, and ground and air traffic management. The renowned scientist, author and editor, Dr. Robert A. Meyers, is editor-in-chief.

This extensive yet accessible work serves as an interdisciplinary reference linking fundamental concepts of mathematics and computational sciences to applications in physical sciences, engineering, biomedicine, economics and social sciences. The Encyclopedia will meet the needs of libraries in academia, government laboratories and industries such as pharmaceuticals, computer hardware and software, aerospace, telecommunications and finance.

Dr. Robert A. Meyers has more than 20 patents, has written over 50 technical papers and is the author or editor-in-chief of 12 technical books and four encyclopedias. He has published in primary literature journals including Science and the Journal of the American Chemical Society, and is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.
