Westpak Deploys Horizontal Impact Test System (HITS)
Date:6/13/2012

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Westpak announces the addition of a significant piece of equipment to its testing capabilities.  The MTS Horizontal Impact Test System (HITS) recently completed its final checkout following a substantial redesign and overhaul. This system is capable of producing horizontal impacts to duplicate railcar coupling and similar conditions experienced during distribution and in-use environments. "With the resurgence of rail shipments, we believe that the demand for this type of testing will increase," says Mark Escobedo, Chief Technologist of Westpak.
With a weight capacity exceeding 5000 pounds and impact velocity of 12 MPH, this system has higher capacity and better performance than inclined impact sleds of earlier vintage. In addition, the Westpak HITS has programmable waveform capabilities including trapezoidal and half-sine shock pulses with variable peak amplitudes and durations.

"The new HITS capability allows Westpak to offer an even broader range of tests and evaluation opportunities for our rapidly growing customer base," says Herb Schueneman, CEO of Westpak.  "To the best of our knowledge, this capability offered by 3rd party testing labs is unique in the U.S. and rare in the world."
