Albrecht served as the editor of the Monthly Weather Review (1985-1990) and Journal of Atmospheric Sciences (2008-2011) and Secretary of the Atmospheric Sciences Section of the American Geophysical Union (1992-1994). He received the NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal, 1992; the Distinguished Alumnus Award, Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University, 2006; and is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society.
