Surgical Theater Brings Familial Patient Engagement to the Annual Joint AANS/CNS Section on Pediatric Neurosurgery
Date:12/5/2018

Surgical Theater brings familial patient engagement to pediatric neurosurgery at the Annual AANS/CNS Summit in Nashville, TN, from December 6-9, 2018 at booth #312. AANS/CNS provides Pediatric Neurosurgeons an opportunity to experience Precision VR®, a Virtual Reality platform that seamlessly integrates throughout the treatment continuum – from the consultation, to surgical planning, and into the operating room.

Patients and their families can now be collaborators in their own treatment journey. As recently seen on The Doctors, Precision VR® allows neurosurgeons, patients and their family to “walk” through the patients’ own anatomical structure. For example, the surgeon, patient and family can stand with an artery to their right, bony skull base structures at their feet, and with a look over their shoulder, they can observe the tumor or vascular pathology. This immersive experience enables them to understand their pathology and their surgical plan.

“Surgical Theater is at the forefront of advancing the standard of care with virtual reality technology”, said Moty Avisar, CEO and Co-founder of Surgical Theater”. “We are driving clinical change and setting a new stage for how surgeons engage patients and their families –and use that same technology in preoperative and intraoperative care. Virtual Reality is going to be the new norm and Surgical Theater is setting that precedence”.

Precision VR® combines leading-edge fighter jet flight simulation technology with advanced medical imaging such as MRI, CT, DTI and BOLD to create a 360-degree virtual reality reconstruction of the individual patient’s anatomy and pathology. Surgical Theater’s 360-degree virtual reconstruction offers surgeons an additional perspective on treatment options and surgical plans, while fostering a shared decision-making environment; helping facilitate a unique and unparalleled opportunity for patient and family engagement.

Pediatric institutions across the country including UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, Children’s National Health System, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital and Rainbow Babies are utilizing Surgical Theater’s Precision VR® in the clinic as well as in the operating room. Stop by booth #312 at AANS/CNS to learn how you too can bring familial patient engagement to your pediatric neurosurgery division.

About Surgical Theater
Surgical Theater, the market leader in virtual and augmented reality healthcare services, is the first to combine cutting-edge fighter jet flight simulation technology with a patient’s own anatomy scans. Rendered from comprehensive combined modalities of CT, MRI as well as advanced post processing images such as DTI and BOLD, the 360° virtual reality fly-through is designed to allow surgeons to walk and fly-through a reconstruction of the patient’s own anatomy and pathology. Surgeons literally walk in the space between the white matter tracks and the tumor, being fully immersed, gaining unprecedented situational awareness and clarity of assessment. By simply turning their head, the surgeon can further explore the anatomy and plan the craniotomy, surgical path, trajectory, corridor, and the entire surgical strategy.
