PETA at 9th World Congress to present new research on alternatives to animal use in experiments
Date:8/26/2014

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and the PETA International Science Consortium, LTD (PISC) scientists will be in Prague this week at the 9th World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences presenting original research on alternatives to the use of animals in research, testing and medical training, as well as studies identifying problems with current laboratory oversight systems.

At the conference, which is being held from August 24 to 28, 2014, PETA and PISC will present seven oral and poster presentations, including:

  • "Analysis of animal experimentation oversight committee membership at US institutions" (PETA)

  • "Use of animals in military medical training by NATO nations" (PETA)

  • "Inter-laboratory validation of an in vitro method to classify skin sensitizers" (PISC)

  • "Strategies to reduce the number of fish used in ecotoxicity tests" (PISC)

  • "Great apes disgrace: How the US laboratory oversight system failed chimpanzees" (PETA)

PETA won the Best Poster Award in the Public Accountability category at the 8th World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences in Montreal in 2011 for its analysis of data on U.S. public opinion about animal testing, which showed large increases in opposition to the practice over the last decade.
