New VeriLook 4.0 for Biometric Facial Recognition and MegaMatcher 3.1 for Multi-biometric Applications Are Now Available
Date:11/30/2009

VILNIUS, Lithuania, Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Neurotechnology (http://www.neurotechnology.com), a provider of high-precision biometric identification technologies, has released two new upgrades in the company's core product line: VeriLook 4.0 Software Development Kit (SDK) for facial recognition and MegaMatcher 3.1 SDK for large-scale multi-biometric and automated fingerprint identification systems (AFIS). Expanded capabilities in VeriLook 4.0 provide enhanced facial recognition reliability across a wider range of facial positions. MegaMatcher 3.1 incorporates the new VeriLook 4.0 face identification algorithm and includes a new palmprint identification add-on, enabling developers and system integrators to design highly accurate multi-biometric systems using any combination of face, iris, fingerprint or palm recognition.

"The increased reliability and face position tolerance in VeriLook 4.0 should be very important for our customers," said Dr. Algimantas Malickas, CEO of Neurotechnology. "The enhancements to the VeriLook algorithm will also be useful for MegaMatcher customers who utilize facial recognition. And the addition of support for palmprint identification will allow wider use of MegaMatcher in criminalistics."

The new VeriLook 4.0 provides a number of significant enhancements over the previous version, VeriLook 3.3, including:

  • Increased recognition accuracy, i.e. decreased False Rejection Rate, by 10-50% at the same False Acceptance Rate level with respect to the VeriLook 3.3 algorithm.
  • Recognition of faces which are rotated in-plane (rolled/tilted left or right) at any angle (VeriLook 3.3 could detect only faces with +/-15 degrees roll angle deviation).
  • Increased tolerance to face yaw and pitch declination, meaning VeriLook 4.0 can recognize faces that are looking side-to-side or tilted forward or back (in many cases it can recognize faces declined up to 25 degrees).
  • Improved facial template generalization, enabling a more reliable template to be generated from a set of previously created templates.
  • VeriLook 4.0 templates are fully compatible with VeriLook 3.3.

With the addition of palmprint technology in MegaMatcher 3.1, it is now possible to use multiple configurations of fingerprint, face, iris and palmprint identification to produce accurate 1:N (1 to many) matching results. The MegaMatcher fingerprint recognition algorithm has received full NIST MINEX certification for use in US Government Personal Identity Verification program fingerprint recognition applications and it supports BioAPI 2.0 and most other biometric industry standards.

The Software Development Kits for VeriLook 4.0 and MegaMatcher 3.1, as well as other award-winning biometric technologies from Neurotechnology (including VeriFinger 6.1 and VeriEye 2.1), are available with highly competitive licensing options through Neurotechnology or from distributors worldwide. 30-day trial versions with full functionality are also available for download. About Neurotechnology

Neurotechnology is a provider of high-precision biometric fingerprint, face, iris and palmprint identification algorithms, object recognition technology and software development products. More than 2000 system integrators, security companies and hardware providers integrate Neurotechnology's algorithms into their products. With millions of customer installations worldwide, Neurotechnology's products are used for both civil and forensic applications, including border crossings, criminal investigations, systems for voter registration, verification and duplication checking, passport issuance and other national-scale projects.

Neurotechnology's identification algorithms have consistently earned the highest honors in some of the industry's most rigorous competitions, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)'s Fingerprint Vendor Technology Evaluation (FpVTE) and the Fingerprint Verification Competitions (FVC).

Drawing from years of academic research in the fields of neuroinformatics, image processing and pattern recognition, Neurotechnology was founded in 1990 in Vilnius, Lithuania and released its first fingerprint identification system in 1991. Since that time the company has released more than 60 products and version upgrades for identification and verification of objects and personal identity.
