National Academies' Keck Conference picks NYU-Poly citizen science researcher
Date:11/6/2012

NEW YORK, November 6, 2012 Polytechnic Institute of NYU (NYU-Poly) Assistant Professor of Technology Management Oded Nov has been selected to participate in the 2012 National Academies Keck Futures Initiative (NAKFI) conference, a prestigious think-tank-style gathering of researchers in science, engineering and medicine. Nov will join 100 colleagues for the conference, "The Informed Brain in a Digital World."

NAKFI is a program of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine with support from the W.M. Keck Foundation that facilitates interdisciplinary research and drives innovative solutions to global challenges. It selects attendees for its flagship Keck Conference through a highly competitive process and assigns them to interdisciplinary research teams in which they generate possible solutions to a common challenge. Teams are comprised of researchers from science, engineering and medicine, as well as representatives from public and private funding organizations, university and government leadership and science journals.

This year's Keck conference will explore the ramifications of a digital world on the field of neuroscience, including how an increasingly connected world will impact learning processes, social behavior, memory, attention and decision-making.

Nov's primary area of research, for which he received the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, is technology-mediated social participation the ways humans use social technologies to fuel collaboration and collective action.

The conference will be held November 14-17, 2012, in Irvine, California.
