Most comprehensive collection of fungal cell biology movies ever published
Date:3/16/2011

Amsterdam, 16 March, 2011 A recent special edition of the journal Fungal Biology Reviews, published by Elsevier, on behalf of the British Mycological Society, features a total of 76 videos which together comprise the most comprehensive collection of fungal cell biology movies ever published. The movies were produced by Professor Gero Steinberg of the University of Exeter, UK, who is a renowned researcher in the field of fungal cell biology.

The editors of the journal and special issue, Nick D. Read and Geoffrey D. Robson, were delighted with the opportunity to publish this all new video content, and expect the collection to become a primary teaching resource in the field. Author Gero Steinberg said, "By sharing this video data with my colleagues, I hope to contribute to the education of a new generation of researchers in the exciting and fast-growing field of fungal cell biology."

The contribution by Steinberg and Schuster is part of a special issue with key note and plenary papers from the 9th International Mycological Congress (IMC9) held in Edinburgh in August of 2010. Many of the leaders in the field, including John Taylor of the University of California and Joseph Heitman of Duke University, contributed to this remarkable publication featuring expert review articles and written versions of the inspirational plenary lectures that were given at the 2010 congress.

In line with its mission to contribute to the progress and application of science, Elsevier has made the entire issue, including all video material, publicly available on Science Direct until 2012 at http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/17494613
