BALTIMORE, Aug. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Baltimore is one of the oldest cities in the nation and therefore has some of the oldest buildings as well. With these older buildings often comes a whole host of problems that might arise, one of the most prevalent problems happens to be mold. Mold is often found in the rafters of the older row homes in Baltimore and in the walls often times due to older plumbing that has been thinking throughout the decades. Mold issues are often brought upon by the mixing of two crucial ingredients water and wood. These are both the primary food sources for mold to latch onto and grow. These two resources for mold are found in great amounts in the Baltimore area, because much of the housing stock is composed of wood, and its proximity to large bodies of water make it more susceptible to mold growth. Mold growth tends to congregate in areas that are natural moist such as in the basements, attics, and bathrooms. One of the first things that should be done is testing. Testing is important to do in the case of mold because, it might not actually be mold. Often cases dirt caked onto walls or wood beams can be deemed as mold by the untrained eye. What is advisable is to hire a home inspector or industrial hygienist to do the testing work. The reason for the hiring of them is to prevent a conflict of interest, because a mold remediation company should not test since there is a possibility for the test results to come back wrong. After the testing is completed, and it is discovered that you have mold what is the next step which is the hiring of the remediation firm. When looking at hiring a mold remediation you need to look at some of their qualifications. One of the first things you need to look into is whether they are licensed and insured to do remediation work. Also, you should to look into whether they IICRC certified mold remediation firm. The firms should follow all of these guidelines in order to solve the issue of mold in your Baltimore area property.
