This means that FS88 meets the US Federal Information Processing Standard 201(FIPS 201) for Personal Identification Verification (PIV) of Federal Employees and Contractors. The FIPS 201 was developed by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in response to Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12).
