FASEB announces 2014 SRC: Phospholipid Cell Signaling & Metabolism in Inflammation & Cancer
Date:1/22/2014

Bethesda, MD The main topics are: signal transduction, cancer, inflammation, lipid imaging and therapeutics. The goals of the meeting are to include cutting-edge topics in phospholipid metabolism and cell signaling that include a strong component in translation to human diseases. Out of the 4 recognized diseases that lipids are known to play a role (type-II diabetes, heart and vascular diseases, inflammation and cancer) we have chosen to concentrate on inflammation and cancer as the other two are amply covered in other scientific meetings. As such, we are broadening considerably the target audience with investigators in those areas, keeping the right balance with the existing interest of more regular attendees.

These objectives will be pursued through the following topics to be covered at the meeting.

  • New cellular and molecular signal transduction research by phospholipases A2, C and D, diacylglycerol kinase, phosphatidate phosphatases, and phosphatidylinositol kinases and impact on inflammation, cell proliferation and tumorigenesis.
  • Genetic, transcriptional and biochemical regulation of lipid metabolism and pathways interconnectivity.
  • New approaches to visualization of membrane and organelle trafficking: endocytosis, organelle biogenesis, phagocytosis, mitochondrial and nuclear function.
  • The molecular basis of inflammation and cancer based on anomalous lipid signaling.
  • Biotechnology translation with recent advances in delivery systems of lipids (e.g., nanoparticles) as therapeutics in cancer treatment.

Recruitment of Speakers

As a truly international conference, in addition to USA researchers, we will have speakers from Canada, UK, Japan, Spain, Italy and South Korea and more countries are expected to be represented from Abstracts. We have enlisted several Howard Hughes Medical Investigator Researchers, members of the National Academy of Sciences (USA) and top-ranking Journal Editors. A great effort will be made to reserve many slots for young investigators at the conference and 3-meet the experts sessions have been booked.
