s landscape of the southern Appalachian Mountains. Her research at the California Academy of Sciences with Dr. Charles Griswold involves the systematics and evolution of the orb-web building araneoid spider genus Cyatholipus, endemic to the Afromontane regions of South Africa. With an expected graduation date of December, 2013, Erika plans to apply to both PhD and master's programs in the field of entomology and terrestrial arthropod biology. She hopes to make significant contributions to understanding biodiversity and the evolutionary processes that give rise to diversity. Her career goals are to obtain a faculty research position to spread awareness of the captivating complexity of arthropod life. Ultimately, through education and research, she aspires to help eliminate quotidian practices that threaten species rich habitats and improve efforts of conservation.
