for his work, including the Albert Lasker Award (1987), Kyoto Prize (2002), the LemelsonMIT Prize (2003), and the Heinz Award (2006). He is one of only seven individuals elected to all three membership organizations of the National Academies, the NAE in 2007, the Institute of Medicine in 2003 and the National Academy of Sciences in 1982.

"No single person has done more to create the genomics era than Leroy Hood," said Ed Lazowska, Bill and Melinda Gates Chair in Computer Science at the University of Washington.
