Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 is designed specifically for enterprise handheld computers, which provide real-time data to field service, warehouse, logistics and other mobile workers in order to secure business-critical data, improve customer responsiveness and boost operational efficiencies.

The new biometrics module allows the M2000 to be used in security applications and includes:

  • A three-track magnetic stripe reader capable of reading any mag stripe credential including drivers licenses and credit cards
  • A FIPS 201-certified fingerprint reader module
  • A machine readable zone (MRZ) reader for reading passports and other travel documents

"The modularity of DAP's handheld, tablet and vehicle-mount computers gives our customers the flexibility to choose the features that work for their specific applications now and into the future," said Khalid Kidari, DAP's director of product management and marketing. "The addition of the Windows Embedded Handheld Operating system and the biometrics module makes the M2000 a more robust offering, providing users additional functionality on an already powerful handheld computer."

DAP's M2000 packs 128 MB SDRAM and 1 GB flash ROM in a device measuring just 6 x 3 x 1.25 inches (155 x 82 x 31 mm) and weighing 13.4 oz (380 g). With ample memory for storing data locally, the rugged computer also communicates wirelessly via Summit Radio wireless LAN 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and the optional GPRS/ED
