CHS Earns HIMSS Analytics Recognition for Outpatient Electronic Medical Record Use

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y., March 27, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Catholic Health Services (CHS) has been recognized by Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics for achieving Stage 6 on the HIMSS Analytics Outpatient EMR Adoption Modelsm. In addition, CHS previously earned a place in the top 12% of U.S. hospitals using an electronic medical record (EMR).

"HIMSS Analytics has recognized CHS for its high level of EMR usage in an outpatient setting.  This recognition and success are the result of strong, interdisciplinary collaboration between our clinical, IT and administrative staff members," commented CHS's Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Daniel DeBarba. "Our entire system-wide team should be congratulated for its excellent work."

The Outpatient EMR Adoption Model was developed by HIMSS Analytics in 2012 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for ambulatory facilities. Tracking their progress in completing eight stages (0 – 7), ambulatory sites can review the implementation and utilization of information technology applications with the intent of reaching Stage 7, representing an advanced electronic patient record environment.

"HIMSS Analytics congratulates Catholic Health Services for making significant progress towards achieving advanced health IT adoption," said HIMSS Analytics Global Vice President John H. Daniels, CNM, FACHE, FHIMSS, CPHIMS. "Stage 6 represents a level of sophistication that can lead to innovative healthcare transformation."

Catholic Health Services (CHS) is an integrated system encompassing some of the region's finest health and human services agencies. With 17,500 employees, 6 acute care hospitals, 3 nursing homes, a home nursing service, hospice, a community-based agency for persons with special needs and a regional lab, CHS's high standards have resulted in a 23% market share.
