Australia to host IOF Regionals -- 2nd Asia-Pacific Osteoporosis and Bone Meeting

As reported by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) in its 2009 publication, 'The Asian Audit', it is anticipated that by 2050 more than 50% of all osteoporotic fractures will occur in Asia. To meet this impending health care challenge, there is a growing need for advanced clinical training of health professionals as well as research into the epidemiology and specificities of osteoporosis and related bone disorders within the Asia-Pacific region. IOF is committed to meeting that need.

IOF is pleased to announce the 2nd Asia-Pacific Osteoporosis and Bone Meeting, to be held in conjunction with the Australian & New Zealand Bone & Mineral Society (ANZBMS) Annual Scientific Meeting and with the Japanese Bone and Mineral Research Society, from September 4-8, 2011 in Queensland. The meeting will provide current information about the clinical management of osteoporosis, bone metabolism and basic bone science, as well as provide an opportunity to showcase regional research in an international context.

Topics to be addressed include fracture risk algorithms, hip fractures, ageing, rheumatology and bone, therapeutics, Male osteoporosis, non-canonical bone, Paget's disease, pediatric bone, malignancy and bone, osteoclasts, bone nutrition, biomechanics, and regenerating bone.

All accepted abstracts will be published in Osteoporosis International, one of the most cited journals in the bone field. Abstract deadline is May 17, 2011.

IOF looks forward to welcoming clinicians and researchers from throughout the Asia-Pacific, including members of IOF's 28 affiliated medical and patient societies in the region.
