ACS webinar features developments in online water and wastewater monitoring

WASHINGTON, Feb. 24, 2010 News media and others interested in the chemical sciences are invited to join the next in a series of American Chemical Society (ACS) Webinars, Professional Growth and Development, focusing on the $44 billion global water treatment market. The session will feature discussion on the latest in online monitoring equipment, how to meet water regulatory requirements for your company, and new opportunities in the area of global sustainability.

Scheduled for Thursday, March 4, 2 3 p.m. Eastern Time, the free webinar will feature Edward Askew, Ph.D., of Askew Scientific Consulting, specializing in laboratory and regulatory management services, speaking on "Online Monitoring for Water and Wastewater Processes Global Sustainability at Your Fingertips."

The ACS Webinar Series connects you with subject experts and global thought leaders in chemical sciences, management, and business to addresses current topics of interest to scientific and engineering professionals. Each webinar includes a short presentation followed by a Q & A session.

News media and scientists can tune into the conference without charge, but must register in advance.

Askew's topics will include:

  • Advantages of online monitoring within the operational control of the facility.
  • Career opportunities and growth in water monitoring and global sustainability

Askew has worked in the private and public sectors as a chemist and a regulator. His areas of expertise cover industrial Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) analysis for certification/recertification of pesticide laboratories, commercial environmental laboratories performing Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) for Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) / Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) projects, state regulatory agency pesticide analyses and enforcement for FIFRA, Clean Water Act (CWA), Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)compliance and water/wastewater analysis. He is the past chair of the Laboratory Practices Committee for the Iowa Water Pollution Control Association (IWPCA), is currently the chair of the American Water Works Association-Iowa Section (AWWA-Iowa) Laboratory Practices Committee, and is the vice-chair of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Water Quality Laboratory Committee. Askew is a committee member of Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater and the Part Coordinator for Part 4000 Inorganic Nonmetallic Constituents.
